prayer & requests

Prayer is a must. Prayer is like breathing. We simply cannot live spiritually without it. We cannot grow as Christians or minister effectively apart from the power of the Holy Spirit. And that power is received through God’s Word and through prayer.

SSBC is striving to be a praying congregation. We pray individually and in our families. We pray in committee meetings, Bible studies and prayer groups. Our elders meet monthly to pray for the church membership, and our church staff prays weekly for the members. It’s not uncommon to see a small cluster of people after a worship service gathered in a pew with their heads bowed, praying for one another’s needs. Our Sunday morning prayer team prays for the congregation during the worship service, and is available to pray confidentially with individuals immediately after the service.

Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm a small group meets in the lobby to pray together. All are welcome to attend this. We have church-wide prayer, led by the elders or pastors, once a month or more.

How can I be involved in praying?

  • Join with other Christians for prayer in a Bible study group or other small gathering.
  • Come to one of our regularly scheduled open prayer groups: such as our 8am prayer in the church library Sunday mornings or Wednesday evening prayer in the lobby at 7pm.
  • Talk to one of our pastors about being part of the Sunday morning prayer teams.

How can I receive prayer?

  • Fill out a yellow Prayer Request Card, available in the pews, and place it in an offering basket on Sunday morning.
The prayer team, staff, and elders will pray and keep all requests confidential.
  • These requests are also confidential and only available to the staff and prayer team.
  • Go forward after a Sunday worship service. At the front right side of the sanctuary, prayer team members wait to pray with those desiring prayer.
  • Ask for the pastors or elders to pray over you (read James 5:13-18).
