Local Missions Overview

What a privilege it is to labor to make much of Jesus and bring hope to the South Shore with the gospel!  God has called SSBC to “make disciples” on the South Shore, which makes every SSBC member a missionary to the South Shore.  As John Piper says, “missions exists because worship doesn’t.”  And so we long to see more people on the South Shore worship Jesus Christ.

In view of our mission, we want to lovingly engage and share the gospel with the people of the South Shore. Our Local missions team exists to help SSBC accomplish three goals…

Equip.  We seek to equip SSBC to engage and evangelize the people of the South Shore.

Mobilize.  We seek to mobilize SSBC members in their towns to gather for prayer, fellowship, brainstorming, and planning towards more effective outreach.

Build Relationships.  We seek ways to build strong relationships with the surrounding community, beginning with the town of Hingham.

GraceWorks is a Local Missions outreach of South Shore Baptist Church.

Mission Statement
In response to God’s lavish grace in our lives through Christ,
GraceWorks will mobilize SSBC Growth Groups and individuals
to love our neighbors, care for the needy, and glorify God through practical acts of service.

rEcess Respite Program

rEcess Events for Families of Children with Special Needs
Interested in serving together with others and meeting the needs of families who have children with special needs? rEcess is respite program offered monthly. We provide 4 hours of childcare filled with fun activities so that parents can have time for themselves. This is an INCREDIBLE opportunity to serve! Volunteers arrive at 1 PM, families at 2 PM, and the day ends at 6 PM. More volunteers and families needed. If you know of a family who could use this program or would like information on training or volunteering, please contact GraceWorks.

Volunteer for rEcess
We need many types of volunteers: medical personnel, EMTs, physical or occupational therapists, personal care attendants and “just regular folks” who love to serve the Lord. Although many jobs are with the children, we can also use help planning the monthly program activities, set-up help, registration, “floaters” to give workers a break and more! See the attached fact sheet to learn more and how to enroll as a volunteer.

We believe everyone should have access to worship, learn and serve in church, regardless of their abilities. Access is a ministry of GraceWorks of South Shore Baptist Church.

A number of SSBC children would benefit from having a buddy during Children’s Church and/or Sunday School. A “buddy” is a caring adult to come alongside the child for support and friendship.

If you would like to be a “buddy” to a child with special needs (adults and older teens are welcome) or you have a child with special needs, please get in touch with Sue Bush.
